Armed Citizen Blocks Woman Being Robbed At Gunpoint

A man took matters into his own hands and stopped a robbery with his gun.

WORCESTER, MA—A man walking along the street happened upon a robbery in progress, and also happened to have a gun.

Around 6:36 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, Worcester police were called to Seymour Street for a reported fight that involved a gun. A couple - a 47-year-old man and 48-year-old woman - told police that they were on their way home when they spotted a 29-year-old woman being held at gunpoint by a man, later identified as Jeremy Cintron, 20, Fairfax Road, Worcester.

In the area of Sterling and Seymour Streets, the 47-year-old man pulled a gun that he owned legally and pointed it at Cintron, yelling at him to drop his own weapon. Cintron turned and pointed the weapon at the him and began walking towards him. The man didn't drop his gun and yelled at Cintron to drop his until Cintron did so, said police. The man put a knee on Cintron's back to hold him down while his girlfriend called police, also sliding Cintron's weapon further away.

While waiting for police to arrive, Cintron rolled over and began to struggle for control of the gun, said police. During the struggle, Cintron grabbed at the gun and a round was fired into the pavement. Cintron also broke free and fled on foot.

Numerous police officers arrived at the scene and quickly searched the area for the suspect. After a brief search, Cintron was apprehended on nearby Windham Street.

Cintron possessed an H&R Model 929 .22 caliber revolver that was loaded with nine rounds of ammunition.

Officers were told that Cintron was trying to rob the woman before the intervention, and that he was with other men. Investigators are looking for the others.

Cintron was charged with Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Dwelling, 2 counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault and Battery, Armed Assault with Intent to Rob, Witness Intimidation, Possession of a Firearm without a LTC, Unlawful Carrying of a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

Cintron was arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
