Assistant DA Charged With OUI, Driving With Teen Daughter In Car

The Worcester prosecutor allegedly drove erratically on I-290, resisted arrest, and failed sobriety tests.

WORCESTER, MA—A Worcester assistant district attorney has been charged with an OUI after allegedly driving erratically with his teenage daughter in the car, according to reports.

Prosecutor John O'Leary was suspended without pay after he was charged with drunken driving on I-290, pulled over by state police around 7:40 p.m. on Monday in Shrewsbury, reports the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Trooper Gregory Zanni spotted O'Leary's Audi on the highway, driving erratically, and followed him west between exits 25 and 24 in Shrewsbury on I-290. Zanni turned on the cruiser lights, but O'Leary didn't stop immediately, instead stopping in the middle of an off-ramp. O'Leary, who told police he was driving his daughter to a dance class in Boylston, reportedly failed several field sobriety tests.

The Boston Herald reports that Trooper Ryan Sceviour assisted in booking O'Leary after his arrest. Sceviour is the trooper at the heart of a controversy that involves being ordered to remove embarrassing details from an arrest report involving a judge's daughter. The state police colonel resigned after Sceviour brought a lawsuit against his superiors.
