Cambridge Street In Worcester Closing For Weeks Due To Sewer Project
The closure will begin Wednesday between Chelsea and Canterbury streets.

WORCESTER, MA — A main southwest Worcester artery will be closed starting Wednesday during weekday hours for up to four weeks due to a sewer construction project, city officials said Tuesday.
Starting Wednesday, Cambridge Street will be closed from Chelsea Street — one block west of Southbridge Street — to Canterbury Street.
During the closure, a detour will take drivers around the construction site via Southbridge, Hammond and Canterbury streets. The detour will only be in place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cambridge Street will be open during nonwork hours.

The project will result in rehabilitated sewer lines, and is being funded by federal stimulus dollars given to Worcester during the pandemic.
"The project will repair identified sewer defects and reduce the likelihood of sewer collapses, blockages, basement backups, and sanitary sewer overflows," the city said in a news release Tuesday.
