Candidates React To Worcester 2025 Municipal Election Results

Mayor Joe Petty will serve his 8th term, while District 2 and 5 Councilor incumbents were not re-elected.

WORCESTER, MA — The unofficial results for Worcester's 2025 Municipal Election are in, and some candidates took to social media to share their reaction.

Mayor Petty Re-elected

Mayor Joseph Petty has clenched onto an eighth term. With 12,430 votes, Petty declared victory.

"Thank you, Worcester, from the bottom of my heart, for entrusting me to serve another term as your Mayor," wrote Petty. "This campaign was about leadership, results, and service to our city. Let’s get to work and make two more years of meaningful progress — together."

Councilor at-large Khrystian King, who was looking to fill the Mayor's seat, fell behind but about 1,000 votes. He will continue to serve as Vice Chairman of the City Council.

"Tonight is a reminder that every conversation, every door knock, every moment spent believing in what our community can be truly matters," wrote King. "This campaign was built on heart, grit, and the shared vision that progress happens when we show up for one another and center the voices too often overlooked."


4 Incumbents To Stay As City Councilors at-large

The City Council will consist of four incumbents and two newcomers: Petty, King, Kate Toomey, and Morris Bergman, as well as newcomers Gary Rosen and Satya Mitra.

That means incumbent Donna Colorio will no longer serve on the council.

District 2, 5 Incumbents Not Re-elected

District 1 will get a new councilor, Tony Economou earned less than 1,000 more votes than his competitor, Keith Linhares, to win the seat.

Robert Bilotta won the position for District 2, ousting incumbent Candy Mero-Carlson.

District 3 will get a new councilor, John Fresolo earned about 300 more votes than his competitior, Robert Pezzella, to secure the seat.

In District 4, incumbent Luis Ojeda earned 1,000 more votes than compeititor Ted Kostas to win the seat. .

District 5 incumbent Etel Haxhiaj was ousted by Jose Rivera. She lost the race by less than 500 votes.


Incumbents won contested races for School Committee at-large and the District C seats:

School Committee at-large seats will be filled by Maureen Binienda and Susan Mailman, while the School Committee District C posiiton will be filled by Dianna Biancheria.
