Charges Pending In Worcester Colby Avenue Standoff Case
A 24-year-old Worcester man shot two family members, beginning a 13-hour standoff with police that ended in the use of a K9 in his arrest.

WORCESTER, MA — A local man arrested Friday night after a 13-hour standoff with police will likely appear in court this week, but the exact charges he's facing were not immediately available Monday, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
The Friday standoff began around 8:30 a.m. along Colby Avenue after the man — who police have not identified — shot two family members. When police responded to the shooting, officers reported that the shooter then opened fire with a handgun on them.
For about 13 hours on Friday, local, state and regional police surrounded the 51 Colby Ave. house using various tactics to get the man to leave, including hostage negotiators, a mental health clinician and tear gas.

Near 9:30 p.m. Friday, the man stepped outside the rear door of the home, and police unleashed a K9 to subdue him. He was also shot in the shoulder by police during the standoff. He was taken to a local hospital, and is expected to recover, police said.
The two family members were also treated at a local hospital and were expected to survive. No police were injured during the standoff.

A spokesperson for the Worcester DA said Monday afternoon that exact charges were not immediately available. Worcester police have said the 24-year-old "faces many serious charges."
