Worcester Police Block Off Neighborhood, Say 'Stay Away From The Area'
The Friday morning incident sent the neighborhood around Colby Avenue into lockdown.

WORCESTER, MA — A man shot two family members and then opened fire on police who responded to the incident in a north Worcester neighborhood Friday morning, police said.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Friday near a home along Colby Avenue. The 21-year-old man shot at two family members, who were taken to the hospital.
The man retreated into his home, but fired several shots when police arrived. A Worcester police tactical team and hostage negotiators then responded to the scene. The police were not hit by gunfire during the incident.

"The Worcester Police Hostage Negotiation Team is on scene with drone operators and a mental health clinician. They are attempting to speak with the male with the hope of bringing the incident to a peaceful resolution," police said in a Facebook message near 1 p.m.
A resident along Colby Avenue told WHDH he heard sirens headed to the area around 9 a.m., although police did not release any further details.

News helicopters were still circling near the neighborhood north of the Green Hill Park golf course near 1 p.m. due to the incident.
