Comfort Pup Coming To Worcester Police, Thanks To DA Funding

WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester Police Department will soon have a new four-legged friend.

Last week, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early donated $3,000 to the police department to start a comfort dog program, according to a news release. With the funds, Worcester police will adopt and train a new pup and handler.

The animal will be there to provide comfort during traumatic events.

“Trauma can have a long-term impact on someone’s life, especially for children. We are appreciative of the Worcester Police Department and this important program,” DA Early said. “This comfort dog will provide a friendly and reassuring presence in times of anxiety, offering a calm source of support and minimizing the impact of the trauma.”

The DA's donation is part of his Drug Forfeiture Community Reinvestment program, which uses money seized from drug crimes to give back to the community. Through the fund, he has donated $2.2 million back into the community since 2007.
