Flash Flood Warning Issued For Worcester County: Weather Service

The warning means flooding is either imminent or occurring, according to the National Weather Service.

WORCESTER, MA — The National Weather Service on Monday afternoon issued a flash flood warning for a wide part of Worcester County from Leicester to Westborough with a line of storms headed for the area.

A flash flood warning means that flooding "is imminent or occurring." The region has been under a flash flood watch since Sunday due to rainstorms across the region. The flash flood warning will be in effect until 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The warning advised residents to move to higher ground, and to avoid entering flooded areas.

The Worcester area saw heavy rain before noon Monday. The rain was set to return Monday evening with a line of storms approaching the area from the southwest near 4:30 p.m.

Catastrophic flooding was seen on Sunday and Monday in parts of the Hudson River valley and western Vermont, where multiple inches of rain fell in just a few hours. Those storms also inundated parts of western Massachusetts, including the Deerfield and Mill rivers near Northampton and Shelburne Falls.
