Flash Flood Warning For Worcester Area: Heavy Rain Predicted

The region was under a flash flood watch Monday, but the hazard was updated to a flood warning near 6 p.m.

WORCESTER, MA — The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Worcester area Monday evening with heavy rain expected across the area over the next several hours.

The region was under a flash flood watch for much of the day Monday. The weather service upgraded that watch to the more serious flood warning just before 6 p.m. A flood warning means flooding is either imminent or already happening in some areas.

The warning area includes all towns surrounding Worcester and east to the county line.

Bands of strong thunderstorms were moving east across Massachusetts on Monday afternoon, triggering weather warnings in many parts of the state. The flood warning in the Worcester area will be in effect until 9 p.m., the weather service said.
