Former Music Teacher Charged With Raping, Assaulting Child

A former music teacher in the Auburn school system faces two serious charges.

AUBURN, MA—A retired elementary music teacher in the Auburn schools was arraigned on charges of raping and assaulting a child while he was employed.

On Wednesday, Auburn police were assisted by South Hadley detectives and officers, as well as Mass. State Police troopers, to arrest Stephen Jaszek, 62, of South Hadley. Jaszek was charged with four counts of rape of a child and one count of aggravated indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Jaszek is a retired music teacher with the Auburn School District and the crimes are alleged to have been committed within the last 10 years and to have occurred during school hours.

Jaszek was arraigned in Worcester Superior Court on Thursday morning.

The incidents allegedly occurred nine to 10 years ago at the former Julia Bancroft School in Auburn. Auburn Police are continuing to investigate the case.

In addition to setting $5,000 cash bail, Judge Janet Kenton-Walker ordered him to stay away and have no contact with the victim, have no unsupervised contact with anyone under age 16 except his son and be monitored with a GPS bracelet. The case was continued to Sept. 24.
