Worcester Gets State Funding For Paving On Route 122

MassDOT contractors will conduct the work.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester is one of dozens of communities in Massachusetts to receive funding for a roadway.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that the City of Worcester will get part of $50 million for paving on Route 122. The funding will be used to pave 217 miles of roads in 34 cities and towns across the Bay State to enhance safety and travel.

MassDOT selected the project and others based on pavement condition data, the proportion of state-numbered routes in poor condition in one area, and geographic equity, with an emphasis on National Highway System roadways. MassDOT contractors will conduct all work in coordination with the city.

It is not immediately clear how much of the funding was awarded for the project in Worcester. Other projects in Worcester County include Route 98 in Uxbridge and Route 117 in Leominster.

“This investment in municipal paving is about delivering significant improvements that make a difference in the lives of people across Massachusetts,” said Gov. Maura Healey. “By helping cities and towns repair and maintain local roads, we’re making everyday travel safer, supporting local economies, and easing the burden on municipal budgets – so residents can see and feel the impact of their government at work."
