Gun Allegedly Pulled On Patron Outside Worcester Bar, 1 Arrest

A gun that was allegedly pulled in front of the bar was ultimately found in a woman's purse inside.

WORCESTER, MA—A Worcester man faces charges after he allegedly pulled a gun on another patron outside of a popular bar on Shrewsbury Street Friday night.

On Feb. 9 around 9:15 p.m., several officers responded to Franks Bar at 274 Shrewsbury St. for reports of an assault that involved a handgun.

The 54-year-old male victim said the suspect was a white male with a bear, about 25 years old, and wearing a brown carpenter's coat. The victim said he was drinking with the suspect inside, and at one point, the victim was leaving when the suspect and another male followed him out. The suspect walked to a car and got in it for a brief moment, getting out and walking toward the victim. He then pulled a gun from his coat pocket and pointed it at the victim, according to the report.

The victim said that the suspect racked a round in the chamber and saw the gun eject one bullet while releasing the magazine. When the victim realized the gun was real, he ran off, said police. After meeting up with the officers the victim stated that he believes that the suspect was still inside the bar.

While speaking with the victim, the suspect, later identified as Charles Jensen, 28, Raymond Street, Worcester, was seen leaving Franks. Police did not find anything on Jensen, who was reportedly uncooperative with officers.

The victim pointed out the vehicle that Jensen had gone into earlier. Officers looked through the window and saw a black backpack on top of the passenger seat, with the backpack partially open and part of a firearm holster sticking out, according to an officer. The vehicle belonged to the other male that walked out with Jensen. The male gave consent for the officers to search the vehicle, and the search did not produce the firearm. Officers now feared that the firearm may be hidden inside the bar. Officers and members of the Alcohol Enforcement Unit entered the bar and asked all the patrons for identification. At this time one of the patrons provided information to the officers where the firearm was hidden. The firearm was located in a purse of female patron that was not involved in the altercation.

The firearm and the ammunition were recovered and secured.

Jensen was placed under arrest and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Improper Storage of a Firearm, and a Firearm Violation with one violent or Drug Conviction.

Jensen was arraigned Monday at the Worcester County District Courthouse.

No injuries were reported.
