Heat Index To Hit 103, Cooling Centers Open In Worcester

A head advisory is in effect in Worcester, according to the National Weather Service.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester has activated its cooling centers for Friday amid hot temperatures in the city.

A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. on Thursday to 8 p.m. on Friday. The heat index is expected to reach 103 on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Cooling centers will offer bottled water and air conditioning. Here’s when you can go to beat the heat on Friday:

  • Worcester Public Library Main Branch, 3 Salem Square - Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St. - Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Worcester 311 Customer Service Center, 799 Main St. - Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can access both locations using the Worcester Regional Transit Authority’s fare-free service.

City officials also warn residents to limit strenuous physical activities, stay hydrated and check on neighbors while temperatures are high.
