Jeremy Denk to Replace Bruce Liu for Academy of St Martin Concert 3/9

Jeremy Denk steps in for Bruce Liu at Mechanics Hall, showcasing his talent with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields on March 9.

Music Worcester has announced that Jeremy Denk will replace pianist Bruce Liu for the Academy of St Martin in the Fields’ performance on Sunday, March 9th at 6:00 PM at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. Unfortunately, Mr. Liu had to withdraw from the tour due to illness. Tickets are now available at musicworcester.org.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jeremy Denk to Worcester once again,” said Adrien Finlay, Executive Director of Music Worcester. “This is an extraordinary opportunity and a rare treat to hear a renowned pianist perform two different programs in a single month. We wish Bruce Liu a speedy recovery and hope to introduce him to our audience in the future.”

Jeremy Denk will return to Mechanics Hall on March 22nd to perform Bach’s Piano Partitas as part of Bach’s Birthday Bash Weekend, which is part of THE COMPLETE BACH, Music Worcester’s 11-year project to present live performances of all 1000+ works written by J.S. Bach.

Known as a pianist whose performances are always enjoyable, Jeremy Denk has received both the MacArthur ‘Genius’ Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Denk is also known for his insightful and original writing on music, which The New Yorker’s Alex Ross praises for its “arresting sensitivity and wit.” His New York Times bestselling memoir, Every Good Boy Does Fine, was published by Random House in 2022.

The London-based Academy of St Martin in the Fields, founded in 1958 by Sir Neville Marriner, is renowned for its fresh and brilliant interpretations of the world’s greatest orchestral music. For their upcoming concert with Music Worcester, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields will perform a diverse program that showcases the richness of classical music. Haydn’s Symphony No. 29 in E Major, Aaron Copland’s Quiet City, John Adams’ Shaker Loops, and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Jeremy Denk will be featured on the program.
