FITCHBURG, MA — A Fitchburg man scored a life-changing $1 million in the Powerball drawing on July 9, but his luck didn’t stop there. Paul Corcoran snagged another $1 million with a second ticket for the same $217.1 million jackpot drawing, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission.
He won a pair of prizes after the first five numbers on both tickets matched those selected in the drawing, according to the commission. Corcoran claimed both prizes on Friday at the state lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
The double-winner told the State Lottery Commission that he first bought a ticket for seven drawings and mistakenly thought that the final drawing for July 9 had already happened, which led him to buy another ticket.

One was from a Market Basket in Fitchburg, while the other was from a Country Farms in Leominster. Now, each shop will earn $10,000 for those sales.
