Man Gets Life Without Parole In Gang-Related Fatal Shooting

WORCESTER, MA—A man will serve a life sentence for the shooting death of David Luyando in June of 2015.

Jose Lora was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Luyando and sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. The trial, which lasted nearly four days, included testimony from Lora, who is 24. The jury deliberated for about three hours.

Judge Paul D. Wilson imposed the mandatory sentence on Friday in Worcester Superior Court after hearing impact statements from three relatives of Luyando, who was 22 at the time of his death. He was killed on the afternoon of June 25, 2015, in Hope Cemetery.

Prosecutors said that Lora, a known member of the Kilby Street Posse, had opened fire on a car that Luyando was in trying to kill another person in the car-Kevin Parker, reports the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Parker had allegedly shot Lora in the arm days prior and Lora was seeking revenge.
