MassDOT To Begin Demolition Work Of Harrison Street Bridge In Worcester

Here's a timeline of the demolition work.

WORCESTER, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is set to begin Phase One demolition work on the Harrison Street Bridge project over I-290.

Here's a projected timeline of the beginning stages of the project:

Dec. 8 through Dec. 22 — Demolition work will take place nightly from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., typically Sunday through Thursday nights. The bridge will be closed at night.

After Jan. 1 — The existing bridge beams will be removed over two nights. Harrison Street will be closed for 36 hours, from around 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. the second morning.

Second week in January (approximately) — There will be partial demolition of existing abutments and bridge piers. This will take place nightly from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for about 10 nights.

The goal is to have phase 1 complete by the end of January, according to MassDOT.
