Minor Flooding In Worcester County Possible During Rush Hour: NWS

A special weather statement issued Friday afternoon warned of "a large area of heavy rain" system moving into the area.

WORCESTER, MA — Heavy rain could create hazardous travel conditions Friday evening in the Worcester area, according to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service.

Rain has been falling since early Friday morning, but a heavier band of heavy rain was approaching the area from the west, according to the weather service. On top of rain, winds could gust to about 30 mph.

"Many areas have already picked up 1 to 2 inches of rain, with as much as 3 to 4 inches in a few locations near the Berkshires and in far northwest Hartford County. Minor flooding of roads, low-lying, and poor drainage areas will persist through the evening commute," the statement said.
