Neighbor Spots Break-In, Follows Suspect, Arrest Made: Worcester Police

A neighbor with an eagle eye spotted some suspicious activity, and called police.

WORCESTER, MA—A woman is facing charges of breaking into a home after a neighbor spotted her and followed her during her alleged getaway.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, police were called to Lake Ave. North for a possible house break. Officers were informed that a neighbor had followed the suspect from the neighbor’s house to Dunkin Donuts located at the intersection of Lincoln and Plantation Streets.

One officer responded to Dunkin Donuts while the other responded to the address. The officer at Dunkin Donuts spotted the woman who fit the suspect's description getting into a cab, and the officer told her not to get in. She had several bags.

Back at the address, an officer talked with the victim, who said he received a call from his neighbor saying there was a woman inside his home acting suspicious. The owner came home and indeed had been the victim of a house break, the home ransacked and several items of jewelry, medication and electronic devices missing.

Rosemary Santana, 34, Piedmont Street, was asked to empty the contents of her bags, inside them medication with the victim's name on them, electronic devices and jewelry.

The victim's neighbor identified Santana as the person inside the home. The victim arrived at the Dunkin Donuts with the other officer and he identified all the items as his with the exception of a screwdriver. The screwdriver matched the pry marks on the front door which was locked prior to leaving earlier, said police.

Santana was placed under arrest and charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime with the Intent to Commit a Felony, Larceny from a Building, Possession of a Burglarious Instrument and Possession of a Class E Substance (victim’s medications).

The suspect will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Monday, Oct. 23.
