Sing That Thing! Music Competition Comes To New England Area

WGBH's competition Sing That Thing! will premiere on Apr. 2 featuring 18 acts of amateur singing groups representing different genres.

From WGBH: Sing That Thing!, WGBH’s competition for New England’s amateur singing groups, will premiere on Friday, April 7, at 8:30pm on WGBH 2. Season 3 will showcase 18 ensembles, representing genres from Top 40 and Renaissance music to classical and jazz, who will vie for the championship title over the course of seven episodes.

“Sing That Thing! brings together an impressive collection of talented New England voices,” said Liz Cheng, WGBH’s general manager for television and co-executive producer of Sing That Thing!. “I am so proud of WGBH’s commitment to the music arts and to sharing wonderful performances with audiences across the region.” High school, collegiate and adult singing groups will perform for coaches who will select one group from each category as well as a wild-card group to move on to the final round. In a live-to-tape finale, the top group from each category presents its unique spin on a song of its choice.

The Sing That Thing! coaches are Anthony Trecek-King, president and artistic director of the Boston Children’s Chorus; Annette Philip, a vocalist, composer/arranger and faculty member at Berklee College of Music and winner of the 2014 national Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Championship with her quartet, Women of the World; and Jared Bowen, WGBH News executive arts editor and host of WGBH’s Open Studio with Jared Bowen, Boston television’s only local arts series. Together, the coaches provide constructive feedback to each group and ultimately determine which ones will advance to the next round.
