Snow Tracks Lead To Alleged Car Thief; Second Also Arrested

A teenager and 35-year-old were arrested for breaking into cars in separate incidences over the weekend.

WORCESTER, MA—Two men - one a teen and the other 35 - were arrested over the weekend in separate incidences involving breaking into vehicles.

On Dec. 15 around 12:24 a.m., police got a call about a suspicious male breaking into cars on Thornton Road.
The witness told police that a man, later identified as Angel Otano, 18, Bourne Street, entering and going through a dark-colored Lexus that was parked on the street. Officers followed footprints in the snow leading from the car, and found Otano a short distance from the vehicle.

Otano ran from police but was caught shortly after. According to police, he had two knives and several assorted electronic items on him, and was identified by the victim as the individual breaking into the car. He was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle for a Felony.

Then, on Dec. 16, around 2 a.m., officers got a call that someone was trying to open cars in the June Street area, describing him as a male on a bicycle wearing a backpack, driving toward Mill Street. On the way to the call, officers observed a male, later identified as Elvin Ramos, 35, Merrick Street, riding a bicycle toward Mill Street while wearing a backpack.

Ramos seemed extremely nervous toward police and gave contradictory answers. In a plastic bag attached to his backpack were receipts and gift items with various last names and addresses. Officers spoke to the people at those addresses, who confirmed that items had been stolen from them.

He was placed under arrest and during a search police found three sets of vehicle keys, a pocket knife, sneakers, and various other gift items. Ramos was charged with Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle at Night for a Felony and Possession of Burglarious Tools.

Otano and Ramos will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
