Springfield Man Gets 2 1/2 Years For Heroin Distribution

The man reportedly sold about $400 of heroin to an undercover cop.

SPRINGFIELD, MA—A Springfield man was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court in Springfield for distributing heroin.

Luis Oppenheimer, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni to 66 months in prison and three years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. In May 2015, Oppenheimer pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute heroin, and one count of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin.

On Oct. 6, 2013, Oppenheimer sold heroin to an undercover federal agent in Springfield, which was captured on video, said authorities. In addition, Oppenheimer admitted that, during the transaction, he accepted $400 in cash in exchange for drugs after his co-conspirator, Jose Vargas, handed heroin to the undercover agent.
Vargas, pleaded guilty to the same crimes on March 31, 2015, and was sentenced to one year of probation.
