Trial Starts For Worcester Man Accused In Deadly Drug Deal: Report

WORCESTER, MA — It’s been six years since a Fitchburg man, Leon Wilson Jr., was killed over what prosecutors called a planned robbery that turned deadly. Now, the man accused of murdering him is on trial, according to a report by the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

The trial for 28-year-old Mugisha Jeanbosco opened on Monday. He is accused of shooting Wilson during a planned robbery on July 11, 2019.

Prosecutors said Jeanbosco and two others planned to steal a backpack of weed from Wilson during a drug deal and ended up shooting him six times during the struggle, according to the Telegram and Gazette.

The Telegram and Gazette reports that Assistant District Attorney Shayna Woodard told jurors on Monday that strong evidence linked Jeanbosco with the crime, including text messages and camera footage of him at the scene.

Meanwhile, Jeanbosco’s lawyer maintained his innocence and said prosecutors did not have enough evidence to tie him to the shooting.

Two other men are accused of being involved in the crime, according to the Telegram and Gazette. They are still awaiting trial.
