Trooper in Violent Arrest Suspended With Pay

A high-speed chase, a violent arrest, and now an investigation and suspension, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Worcester, MA - After a high-speed chase ended with an apparent beating for its Worcester suspect, Massachusetts State Police have suspended one of the troopers involved, with pay, for the duration of the investigation.

Massachusetts State Police's investigation is meant to determine whether officers used excessive force, as video from the scene appears to suggest. A New Hampshire trooper has also been relieved from duty.

Neither name has been released.

The hours-long, high-speed police chase through two states ended in Nashua, N.H., Wednesday night.

Videos show the suspect, later identified as Richard Simone, 50, of Worcester, stepping out of his truck on Hutchinson Street. In the video, Simone appears to surrender and sink down to the ground; an officer charges the suspect and throws a punch. Another officer throws more punches as Simone is wrestled to the ground.

Simone was arraigned Friday on numerous charges.

Massachusetts police are not releasing the trooper's name because the suspension "is an internal personnel action," a press release from the department said.

The Massachusetts trooper is assigned to the Andover Barracks, is 32 years old and has been a member of the department since October 2011, according to state police.
