- Charpentier, a star composer of the opulent French court of Versailles, brings a touch of royal elegance to the stage. His Te Deum, featuring five soloists and a chamber ensemble, promises an intimate and gorgeous interplay between voice and instruments – a true feast for the ears. Shepard notes that this piece, referencing ancient Latin Christian hymns, is pure musical celebration.
- Then there's Handel, a German-born composer who found his voice in Italy. His Dixit Dominus, written in his younger years, is hailed as one of his finest works. Prepare for an expansive choral soundscape, beautifully interwoven with instrumental textures.
Shepard eloquently puts it: "It was Bach's genius to marry the French, Italian and German styles in his own unique way – this concert is a wonderful way to see those important influences in a pure form!" It's like stepping back in time to witness the very ingredients that shaped a musical titan.
A Galaxy of Vocal Talent
Adding even more brilliance to Charpentier's Te Deum are a stellar lineup of soloists: Louise Fauteux (soprano), Erica Mass (soprano), Megan Roth (mezzo-soprano), Timothy Parsons (countertenor), Travis Benoit (tenor), Michael McAvaney (tenor), Jermaine Woodard (baritone), and John Salvi (bass). Their voices will soar and intertwine, bringing the celebratory spirit of the music to life.

The Voices Behind the Magic
The Worcester Chorus isn't just any choir; it's a cornerstone of the region's musical heritage. Founded way back in 1858, they've been gracing the stage of Mechanics Hall for over a century, collaborating with renowned orchestras and tackling everything from choral masterpieces to contemporary works. And guess what? They're also a key player in Music Worcester's ambitious 11-year project, THE COMPLETE BACH, aiming to perform all of Bach's works live for the first time in America!
Leading this incredible ensemble is Chris Shepard, now in his sixteenth year as Artistic Director. His passion for choral music is infectious, and his recent appointment as The Ruth Susan Westheimer Artistic Director of THE COMPLETE BACH speaks volumes about his dedication to bringing exceptional music to audiences.
Alongside him is Mark Mummert, the Assistant Director & Accompanist for the Worcester Chorus and a musical force in his own right. As director of The Worcester Chorus Women’s Ensemble and Cantor at Trinity Lutheran Church, his deep understanding of choral traditions will undoubtedly enrich the performance.
Don't Miss This Musical Moment!
This concert isn't just an ending; it's a vibrant culmination of a season filled with incredible music.
