WORCESTER, MA - A rule change on absenteeism for the Worcester City Council fell short of approval Tuesday night, according to the Telegram & Gazette.

The proposal would track councilors' attendance at meetings and withhold salaries during unauthorized leave. It collected a majority 6-4 vote, but did not achieve the two-thirds required for amendments to pass.

Councilor at-Large Thu Nguyen, who has attended one council meeting since January after taking an indefinite hiatus and alleged LGBTQ+ discrimination from Mayor Joseph Petty and other councilors, was not present.
