Worcester County Buses Now Have Ads On Safe Med Storage

WORCESTER, MA— Feature advertisements sponsored by District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.’s office to encourage safe storage of prescription medications are now adorning 34 buses in Worcester County cities.

The ads are placed on the inside and outside of Worcester Regional Transit Authority and Montachusett Regional Transit Authority buses and run for eight weeks, according to the announcement. These buses service Worcester, Fitchburg and Leominster as well as many of the surrounding towns.

The ads aim to encourage people to properly secure their prescription medications as a way to prevent the spread of opioid addiction. Slogans in the ads include, “Secure her future. Secure your meds.” and “Which loved one will you save from addiction? Lock up your meds.”

“We know that the path to opioid addiction often starts with one pill. Whether it is a teenager finding their way into the medicine cabinet or another family member looking to alleviate pain, that one pill can be a game changer,” Early said in a statement. “This avenue to addiction can easily be closed by people properly securing or disposing of their prescription medication and we hope these ads will remind and educate the general public to do so.”

This project is being funded through a Hal Rogers/Bureau of Justice Assistance federal grant for opioid addiction prevention awarded to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office in September 2015.
