Worcester County Officer Named Correctional Officer Of The Year For Courageous Actions
The award is presented by the Massachusetts Sheriffs' Association.

WORCESTER COUNTY, MA — A police officer in Worcester County received an award for his willingness to jump into action while off-duty when he encountered an emergency.
Officer Nicholas Wojnar of the Worcester County Sheriff's Office earned the Massachusetts Sheriffs' Association's Correctional Officer of the Year Award for his lifesaving actions during an incident on Oct. 3, 2024.
Officer Wojnar was off-duty when he came upon a car crash in Grafton. One of the vehicles was inverted, and Officer Wojnar crawled into it to help a woman trapped inside. He cut her seat belt and helped her to exit the vehicle, and stayed at the scene until local first responders arrived, according to the sheriff's office.

"Officer Wojnar’s prompt response, professionalism, and composure may have potentially saved a life," wrote the Worcester County Sheriff's Office in a news release. "Thanks to his comprehensive training, Correctional Officers like Officer Wojnar are consistently prepared to act swiftly as first responders during challenging situations to support those in greatest need."
