WORCESTER, MA — Jermoh Kamara, Councilor at-large candidate in Worcester, requested a recount in the city's municipal election.

Kamara, who did not gain a seat on the City Council by a very narrow margin, submitted hand-count recount petition papers for six out of 10 wards, according to the City Clerk's office. Now, the city's Election Commission will meet to discuss the process.

Kamara announced last week that she would request a recount. "This decision is not about second-guessing the process, but about respecting our democracy and the value of each person’s voice," she said.

The six Councilor-at-large candidates with the most votes were incumbents Petty, King, Kate Toomey, and Morris Bergman, as well as newcomers Gary Rosen and Satya Mitra. That also meant incumbent Donna Colorio would be leaving the City Council.

The Election Commission will meet at City Hall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
