Girl Killed By Driver In Worcester At Dangerous Crossing For Pedestrians
A driver in an Acura hit the girl as she attempted to cross Belmont near UMass Chan, an area many pedestrians cross with no protection.

WORCESTER, MA — A 13-year-old girl died Thursday afternoon after a driver hit her along a dangerous stretch of Belmont Street that has no safe place for pedestrians to cross.
The girl was attempting to cross the six-lane road near Dustin Street around 2:30 p.m. Thursday when a driver in an Acura hit her in the westbound lanes. She died a short time later at a local hospital, Worcester police said.
The part of Belmont where the driver hit the girl lacks crosswalks or any safe way for pedestrians to cut across the road, although many people cross in that area to get from the UMass Chan campus on the north side of Belmont to the commercial and residential area on the south side. The nearest crosswalks are at a 1/2 mile apart at either Plantation Street or Lake Avenue
