Worcester Man With Intent To Murder Warrant Charged In Southbridge

A Worcester man was charged with firearm-related offenses after police executed a warrant for felony charges, including intent to murder.

WORCESTER, MA - A Worcester man has been charged with several firearm- and murder-related offenses, according to the Southbridge Police Department.

Worcester and Southbridge Police executed an arrest warrant for Janiell Castro, 20, of Worcester, who was residing on West Street in Southbridge last week. The warrant was for three felony firearm-related charges and assault with intent to murder from an incident that occurred in Worcester.

Police believed Castro was armed, dangerous and evading capture from officers.

Responders recovered a firearm, a 30-round magazine and numerous live rounds of ammunition. Castro was arrested on the scene without incident.

A resident of Plantation Street in Worcester, Castro was transported back to the city for processing. In addition to the felony warrant, Castro was charged by the Southbridge Police Department with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a loaded firearm without a license to carry (subsequent offense)
  • Possession of a firearm with two prior violent/drug crimes
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition (subsequent offense)
  • Improper storage of a large capacity firearm
  • Possession of a large capacity feeding device
