WORCESTER, MA — Ever wondered what police officers in Worcester do every day? Here is the chance to learn.

The Worcester Police Department is hosting a Citizens' Academy so that residents can get a closer look at the day-to-day operations at the police station.

The 11-week program starts on September 10 and goes through November 19. Citizens will get to learn about patrol procedures, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement and specialized units.

Classes will be on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants could also get the chance to schedule a ride-along with officers.

This comes just one week after the city launched new resources for residents to stay informed about police conduct. That was because a scathing government report said the Worcester Police Department used excessive force, engaged in racial discrimination and illegal sex acts against women.
