Worcester School District and Project Bread Celebrate School Breakfast
On March 6, Project Bread joined Worcester School District at South High School during National School Breakfast Week

During National School Breakfast Week (March 3 – 7, 2025), Worcester School District celebrated the impact that free school breakfast has on students each day. Staff members from statewide food security nonprofit Project Bread joined Worcester’s Lead Chef Trainer Matt Dalbec onsite at South High School on Thursday, March 6 to enjoy a new school breakfast recipe of blueberry compote.
“The recipe I made utilizes USDA commodity blueberries, lemon juice and honey. We decided to serve them with waffle sticks as they are a student favorite. We feel that this will give a new look to an old standby,” shares Dalbec.
Students who start their day with a nourishing school breakfast attend class ready to learn, score higher on tests, and have a higher attendance rate. In Worcester, the school district is investing time and care into developing and upgrading their menus to feature local and commodity goods, in a way that they know students will love.
