Worcester To See Destructive Winds: Weather Service
Wind gusts will top 50 mph in the Worcester area during a storm that will give way to frigid temperatures.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester could see some of the fiercest winds in the state during a storm set to strike Wednesday and into the early morning hours on Thursday.
The storm will bring rain, and will be followed by a rapid cooling. Temperatures will only be in the 30s on Thursday — that's about 30 degrees cooler than daytime highs seen Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, the strongest wind gusts will hit around 6 p.m. and continue past midnight. Gusts could reach as high as 53 mph during that time. Only places like Nantucket and Hyannis will see stronger gusts near 60 mph, although places like Fitchburg and Greenfield could see gusts up to 55 mph.

There will be a wind advisory in effect for the Worcester area between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday, according to the weather service.
"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," the advisory said.

The forecast shows calmer weather starting with a warm-up on Friday with cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
