Worcester State Closed After Fatal Shooting, Shelter-In-Place Lifted
State police went to Worcester State near 2:30 a.m. Saturday after a shooting that sent the campus into lockdown.

WORCESTER, MA — A shelter-in-place order at Worcester State University was lifted Saturday morning after a fatal shooting involving two victims.
Police responded to the Chandler Street campus near 2:30 a.m. after gunfire broke out. The school was placed on lockdown, with students told to stay in their dorm rooms. The shooting happened in the vicinity of the Wasylean parking lot.
Worcester County DA Joseph Early Jr. said neither the shooter nor the victims were students at the college. One of the victims died Saturday and the second was being treated at a local hospital. A person was arrested in connection to the shooting, Early said.

"The campus was placed on a shelter-in-place order. At this time, we are asking students to stay in their residence halls until the location where the incident occurred has been processed by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Unit," the college said in a news release Saturday.
Activities canceled this weekend due to the incident include homecoming and family weekend.
