A Child is Waiting: Generous Jayvion's Joy is in Work, Daily Life

Hundreds of Michigan teenagers are hoping to be adopted by willing forever families before aging out of the child care system.

Jayvion’s worker smiles as she describes the fifteen-year-old.
“His personality captures you,” she says. “He is friendly, focused and fun to visit with.
“Jayvion is very special. He is very motivated and can truly imagine himself accomplishing things as he grows into an adult: learning new skills, working, earning his own money to purchase the things he needs and likes.
“When I visit Jayvion, he doesn’t try to evade his chores and responsibilities. He will say, ‘I only have so much time; I need to get back to my work!’”
Jayvion’s worker continues, “He is a kind, polite, friendly young man who likes to keep things clean. He values tidiness and order and often will straighten up whatever room he occupies.
“He is always willing to make someone’s day better by sharing his things with them, playing a game with them, or just being there for support.
“I remember once,” his worker recalls, “he was telling me that one thing he loves about Christmas is having eggnog. He said, ‘When I have enough money, I’m going to buy lots of eggnog and let everyone have some, and maybe there will be some left for me!’”
“Jayvion is really fun to be with,” she adds. “He can definitely be silly. His stories are amazing. He can wrap you up in them!”
“Watching ‘Family Guy’ makes me laugh,” Jayvion says, “and when a worker teases us in a friendly way or jokes around with us…they are so funny!”
Jayvion enjoys school and many extracurricular activities.
“I like seeing my teachers at school,” he says, “and solving math problems, working on computers, going to gym class and being outside.”
After school, Jayvion plays football and basketball and enjoys riding bikes, playing video games, and jumping on the trampoline.
He also gets involved with on-campus jobs, such as working at group car washes and on a Christmas tree farm.
Jayvion has many aspirations.
“I want to have a good-paying job,” he declares. “And I’d like to know about all the cool inventions before they come out…a ‘sneak peek!’ As an adult, I’d like to be a truck driver.”
But mostly, Jayvion would like to be part of a forever family.
“Jayvion would do well in just about any forever family,” his worker states, “but would probably do best as an only child. However, he will continue to thrive as long as he gets from his parent or parents the care and attention he needs.”
“I’d like being with a family, doing everyday things,” Jayvion says, “like watching movies, eating good food, traveling, and having a house or apartment to call home.
“I am very generous,” he says. “I do chores without being asked, I can help organize and fix things, I have a lot of love to give. I am a clean, organized kid – and I will always be there to help, no matter what. When I think of ‘family,’ I think of loving relationships, of my siblings, of people I can depend on always.”
