Detroit-Bound Amtrak Train Loses Power, Strands 107 Passengers On Thanksgiving

Officials said all passengers were safely relocated and there were no injuries.​​

MARENGO TOWNSHIP, MI — More than 100 Detroit-bound Amtrak passengers were safely evacuated after the train lost power in west Michigan, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the train lost engine power and became immobile during severe winter weather conditions at 8:42 p.m. Thursday in Marengo Township near the City of Marshall.

Most of the 107 passengers were taken to the Amtrak station in Battle Creek by Marshall Public Schools buses, officials said.

Other passengers were taken to a second Amtrak train that arrived at the scene, officials said.
