Detroit Coast Guard Rescues 3 People, Cat From Boat Stuck In Lake Huron
Officials called the rescue mission a "complex basket recovery."
PRESQUE ISLE HARBOR — Rescue crews saved three people and a cat from a boat that ran aground in Lake Huron in northern Michigan late Monday night, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
Officials said the 54-foot boat ran aground near Presque Isle Harbor, which is near Alpena.
The US Coast Guard Air Station Detroit launched its MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to begin the rescue operation.

The helicopter crew arrived shortly after midnight and "battled strong winds and breaking waves on the disabled vessel," officials said.
The crew lowered a rescue swimmer down onto the boat. Once on the boat, the swimmer loaded two of the people into the rescue basket, which was then hoisted up to the helicopter in what officials called a "complex basket recovery."
