MI Little League Team Wins State Championship, Heads To Regional For Shot At World Series

A Little League team from the Upper Peninsula is moving on to the regionals after claiming the state championship.

MICHIGAN — The Negaunee Little League Majors baseball team is moving on to the regionals after claiming the state championship.

Negaunee defeated Plymouth-Canton 10-5 last Wednesday to secure the title. They now travel to Whitestown, Indiana for the Great Lakes Regional Tournament, which will take place from Aug. 2 to 6.

The other teams in the Great Lakes region are Brownsburg of the home state of Indiana, Clarendon Hills of Illinois, West Side of Ohio and Lexington Eastern of Kentucky.

Negaunee drew a first-round bye, meaning they are one of the five teams not playing on the opening day of Saturday. They will play the winner of Saturday morning’s Kentucky vs. Ohio game at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Little League Baseball World Series officially begins on Wednesday, Aug. 13, in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Play will be divided into two brackets, one for U.S. competition and the other for International competition.

Play concludes with the championship game on Sunday, Aug. 24, as the winners from each bracket square off. The brackets for the World Series are determined in regionals held from July 31-Aug 8.

The Little League Baseball World Series is an annual baseball tournament held in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for children aged 10 to 12. It features teams from the United States and around the world, competing in both baseball and softball tournaments.

The baseball tournament was first held in 1947 and has become a major event in youth sports. The softball tournament isn’t as well known, but there may be some local teams.
