MICHIGAN — A Starbucks location in Michigan is one of the approximately 90 locations across the country affected when the coffee chain sunsets its pickup-only concept next year as part of a new company strategy, according to USA Today.

The Ionia and Oakes Starbucks location in Grand Rapids is among "pickup" locations the company could close, according to the report, or it could be converted.

USA Today reported that CEO Brian Niccol announced on an earnings call this week that Starbucks will be phasing out its pick-up only store model in 2026.

Niccol said the "Starbucks Pick Up" venture that was launched in 2019 was no longer compatible with the coffee chain's plan to get "back to Starbucks," according to USA Today

"We found this format to be overly transactional and lacking the warmth and human connection that defines our brand," Niccol said on the call, according to USA Today.
