Michigan's Top Private High School Costs $44K, New Rankings Show

Niche's 2026 rankings show which private high school is considered the best in Michigan and how much families pay to attend.

Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills is the best private high school in Michigan, according to Niche’s new 2026 rankings released Monday. The school’s yearly tuition is listed at $44,100, with boarding at $60,000.

The 2026 rankings cover 30,000 private schools and 93,000 public schools nationwide, incorporating both quantitative data and user reviews.

To create the rankings, Niche combines data such as test scores, enrollment, and facility resources with insights from students, parents, and educators. The goal is to help families choose schools where children can succeed academically, thrive socially, and build a strong foundation for their future.

In Michigan, behind Cranbrook Schools, the top 10 private high schools and their tuition are:

No. 2 Greenhills School, Ann Arbor - $33,540

No. 7 Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills - $28,500

No. 8 Frankel Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit, West Bloomfield - $32,100

No. 9 Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor, $24,910

No. 10 Spring Vale Christian School, Owosso - $5,500

Nationally, The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut (costing $71,170 a year), secured the No. 1 private high school spot, followed by Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire and Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut.

Niche also ranked public schools at all levels, school districts, and specialized categories such as STEM, arts, and boarding schools.
