Wednesday, May 28, is National Hamburger Day, an unofficial holiday that celebrates America's favorite sandwich.

MICHIGAN — Wednesday, May 28, is National Hamburger Day, an unofficial holiday that celebrates America’s favorite sandwich.

The origins of National Hamburger Day are unclear. The National Day Calendar said the origin of the hamburger itself is surrounded in controversy, but that it most likely first appeared in the 19th or early 20th centuries and has grown in popularity over the years.

A popular food website said Dearborn's Taystee's serves the best burger in Michigan. The website noted the restaurant's original burger, which is a 5-ounce Halal patty with lettuce, tomato, pickles, American cheese, grilled onion and burger sauce on a brioche bun.
