Honorable Dennis Archer to Speak at Tri-Community Coalition Leadership Breakfast

Tickets are available for the 13th annual Tri-Community Coalition Leadership Breakfast on Oct. 24 featuring the Honorable Dennis Archer.

The former Detroit mayor will speak from 7 to 9 a.m. during the event at in Berkley.

While he is well-known for his time serving the city of Detroit, Archer is a man of many accomplishments, as the Tri-Community Coalition notes he:

  • Graduated from Western Michigan University.
  • Taught learning disabled students in the Detroit Public Schools.
  • Earned a JD from Detroit College of Law.
  • Worked as a trial lawyer and served as associate professor of the Detroit College of Law, and as an adjunct professor of law at Wayne State University Law School.
  • (Was) appointed by Governor James Blanchard to be an associate justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.
  • Served as Detroit's mayor, 1994-2000.
  • (Was) elected chairman of Dickinson Wright PLLC, a Detroit-based law firm.
  • (Was) elected to serve as president of the American Bar Association, the first African-American to hold that position.

The Tri-Community Coalition works to prevent youth substance abuse and promote healthy decisions among youths in Huntington Woods, Berkley and Oak Park.
