Berkley Patch wishes Oak Park resident Rose Shnay a very happy 100th birthday!
Shnay was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Porcupine, Ontario, Canada, the third of Louis and Minnie Kideckel's six children.
She moved to Detroit with her family when she was 17 years old and married her husband Max in 1950. The couple was together for 44 years until Max’s passing in 1995. They loved to travel and visited Toronto, Ontario; Florida; Hawaii; Acapulco, Mexico; and the Caribbean.

Shnay's passions have included cooking, baking, singing, reading, drawing and Friday night dinners with homemade matzo ball soup, kugel and roasted chicken.
Rose loves visits from her nephew and godson Alan Kideckel of Berkley, who brings her corned beef sandwiches and makes her laugh. Kideckel submitted a request to the TODAY show's Willard Scott, who celebrates centenarians on the air, to honor his aunt.
