UPDATED: Berkley Man Hospitalized After I-75 Accident
Joshua McBrantie, 20, hit part of a road construction sign that came through the windshield and struck him in the chest, Auburn Hills police say.

A Berkley man was hospitalized Thursday after an early morning, single-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 in Auburn Hills.
Winds that gusted faster than 50 miles per hour overnight appeared to have blown the base of a road construction sign into the roadway near Chrysler Drive, Auburn Hills Police Lt. Thom Hardesty said.
"The driver hit one of those stands, which flew up in the air, came through the windshield and hit him in the chest," Hardesty said.

The Auburn Hills Police and Fire departments responded to the accident, which occurred just after 4 a.m., he said. Joshua McBrantie, 20, was transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he was listed in stable but serious condition, Hardesty said Friday.
McBrantie is expected to make a complete recovery, Hardesty said. He added that the man's family had declined a request to speak with the media.

The construction sign stand was cleared from the scene and the Michigan Department of Transportation was notified so other materials could be secured, Hardesty said.
"The Auburn Hills Police in cooperation with the Southeast Oakland County Crash Investigation Team are currently investigating the crash. It appears at this time that alcohol and/or drugs are not a factor in this crash," according to a press release. "Anyone who witnessed the accident is requested to contact the Auburn Hills Police Department at 248-370-9444."
