Berkley Schools Team Up With Royal Oak For MLK Day Of Service
Schools Seek Volunteers, Canned Goods

On Monday, Jan, 15 the Berkley Schools invite the community to take part in its second annual MLK Service Day: A Day On, Not a Day Off. According to the Berkley Schools, volunteers will gather at 8 am for breakfast at Berkley High School.
They’ll view student performances and presentations about Martin Luther King. After the morning program, volunteers will either stay at the school to make kits for distribution, or travel to remote sites to work.
Projects for the day include making Valentine’s cards for the Judson Center, sorting care packages for children in foster care, assisting at an area food pantry, and cleanup and maintenance outdoors in Detroit’s Brightmoor neighborhood. If you’re interested in the Brightmoor project, the MLK Service Day organizers have specific instructions.
“Volunteers will clean, paint and/or work on neighborhood projects. Volunteers must be dressed for outdoors and painting, plus bring their own lunches,” event information advises. Individuals interested in volunteering at Brightmoor are also asked to bring cleaning supplies. Transportation for this part of the event is provided and will return to Berkley High School by 3p.m.
