The Doll Hospital & Toy Soldier Shop Going Out Of Business

Beloved Berkley Toy Store Closing After 70 Years

With urgent care, one of Berkley’s best-loved businesses announced Monday it was closing for good. The Doll Hospital & Toy Soldier Shop opened in 1948 in Detroit. The original owner, Kathryn Parish, moved the shop to 3947 W. 12 Mile in Berkley in 1951.

Today at 10 a.m., the owners will begin liquidating stock.

“This is a sad day for the entire Doll Hospital family, but as some folks may have heard and began posting, we are going to be closing up shop,” the toy shop’s current owners said on Facebook. “The reality was that the pressures of online retail finally got to us.”

For anyone who might have a “patient” in the shop’s care - never fear. The owners say they’ll either fix dolls before the final day or business or contact customers to make other arrangements. “We will be here thru at least early March to complete repairs on dolls and will notify you to pick up when your doll is complete,” reads a message posted to the store’s website.

“We will miss the excitement, joy and wonder seen through the eyes of a child when visiting The Doll Hospital,” the shop owners wrote. “We are privileged to have been a part of the wonderful Berkley community since 1948 and thank you for your business and friendship over the years!”
