While the events are of limited duration, art lovers' thirst for knowledge is endless. Huntington Woods Public Library Director Anne Hage has suggested several titles that will keep enthusiasts busy reading this summer and beyond.
Books for children
- Artist to Artist: 23 Major Illustrators Talk to Children About Their Art by Eric Carle, 2007. Some of the most beloved artists in children’s literature talk to children about their careers and art in this anthology.
- Art Explained: The World's Greatest Paintings Explored and Explained by Robert Cumming, 2007. This book takes a visual approach to deconstructing 45 world-famous paintings.
- Art for All: Public Art by Laura Hensley, 2011. This books surveys public art, including murals, graffiti, obelisks and religious statues.
Books for adults
- Mirror of the World: A New History of Art by Julian Bell, 2010. This history of artistic achievements begins with prehistoric stone carvings and continues to contemporary video installations.
- Art: the twentieth century by Flaminio Gualdoni, 2008. This book explores art of the 20th century.
- Art: Over 2,500 Works From Cave to Contemporary by Ross King, 2008. This chronological look at more than 700 artists includes a guide on how to observe paintings and sculptures.
