BCS Science Olympiad Team takes First at Michigan Competition

The Birmingham Covington School (BCS) Science Olympiad team, coached by Tammy Brown, Chris Emmi and Jeanne Jacobs, competed against 28 other teams from around Michigan at the International Academy in Troy on Feb. 4.

Overall the team came in first place and the following students earned medals or ribbons for their events:

First Place:

• Awesome Aquifer: James Rivard and Jacob Anderson
• Anatomy: Nadia Hakim and Noah Smith
• Rocks and Minerals: Aaron Levett and Adam Smith
• Keep the Heat: Varsha Kumar and Noah Smith
• Disease Detectives: Indy Andra and Bogdan Manga
• Mission Possible: Jacob Dara, Nadia Hakim and Leila Owens

Second Place:

• Forestry: Jacob Dra and Bogdan Manga
• Compute This: BEn Fisher and Aaron Levett
• Bottle Rockets: Jacob Dara and Michael Kmiec

Third Place:

• Dynamic Planet: Don Rea and James Rivard

Fourth Place:

• Experimental Design: Michael Kmiec, Varsha Kumar and James Rivard
• Microbe Mission: Aaron Levett and Leila Owens
• Road Scholar: Don Rea and Adam Smith
• Mousetrap Vehicle: Nick Cofer and James Rivard

Fifth Place:

• Mission Possible: Jessie Fisher and Aliya Hakim

Sixth Place:

• Crime Busters: Nadia Hakim and Leila Owens
• Meteorology: Michael Kmiec and Adam Smith
• Write It Do It: Treveor McMahon and Marshall Ross

Seventh Place:

• Food Science: Nick Confer and Varsha Kumar

Eighth Place:

• Storm the Castle: Jacob Anderson and Bogdan Manga

The next competition will take place on March 17 at Oakland University.
