Birmingham Student Honored by Danish Institute for Study Abroad

Denison University junior Alexander Wood, from Birmingham, Mich., has been honored by the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS). He was named the Psychology Program Distinguished Student for the Fall 2012 semester.

"Each semester, our academic programs recognize one student, selected by faculty and staff, with focus on merit, leadership, academic performance and overall program involvement," said Julie Scott, director of institutional relations for DIS.

In a letter of recommendation, one of Wood's professors wrote, "Academically, his written work is excellent and demonstrates his ability to think creatively as well as analytically, and he always participates actively and constructively to class discussions." The professor added, "His strengths of wisdom, humanity, and justice would make him an excellent representative for our field of studies in his future career."

The Danish Institute for Study Abroad is a government-recognized, high-quality study abroad program established in 1959. All DIS courses and academic programs are intellectually stimulating and challenging – and are all taught in English. But at DIS, study abroad is not solely about academics, it is about providing a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to experience new situations and build and develop leadership skills for a globalized world.
